An accidental text message between the two has become a loved yearly ritual.
After being introduced via an accidental text message in 2016, two total strangers will enjoy their fourth thanksgiving meal together, according to ABC News.
When 62-year-old Wanda Dench tried to text her grandson to ask him for a holiday, the tradition of having turkey day dinner at her house was born.
Instead, Dench sent an unintentional SMS to Jamal Hinton, a Black senior in high school. Hinton responded that he was skeptical because he was aware that his grandmother didn’t like text.

In order to verify whether the woman was, in fact, his grandmother, he messaged the phone back and requested a picture. He got back a photo of Dench, a white woman with blonde hair and glasses.
The 20-year-old responded with the emoji for laughter, “[You’re] not my grandma.”
He wasn’t her grandson, but Hinton still asked if he could come over and send back a selfie to prove it. He was received warmly by Dench.
Certainly, you can. Grandmas feed everyone; that’s what they do, she added.

Since then, Hinton has shared a picture of himself and Dench on social media every Thanksgiving. He produced a video in 2018 to capture the holiday feast.

Hinton stated this week on Good Morning America, “[Wanda] is a really good person. The time I spend with her is enjoyable.
Dench claimed to have been raised in a military family in Hinton’s 2018 documentary. Both her husband and her father served in the military.
I frequently visited new areas because we moved around a lot. And I didn’t treat strangers differently,” she added. “Family is not just about blood. It is the company of the people you choose.
Hinton claimed in a New York Post interview that he only sees Dench every two months. Along with Hinton’s girlfriend and Dench’s husband, they visited a pumpkin patch in October.
