Mary, Anne, and Claire were forced to flee their house after a final conflict with their young stepmother, and they became homeless. A year later, though, a police officer picked them up, & a lawyer was waiting for them with the most shocking news.
Mary’s mother died when she was just 16 years old, and it was the most difficult time of her life. As the eldest of three sisters, she kept an eye on Anne, 14, and Claire, 11.
Their father was almost useless in dealing with them, and Mary assumed he was grieving, but the reality was exposed only a few months after their mother died.
Anton, their father, had brought his new fiancée to live with them. Jane was only 21 years old. In comparison, their father was two decades her senior. Mary tried to persuade him that he couldn’t marry a lady her age. But he refused to listen, and they married.
The worst was about to come because Jane pretended to be the sweetest person in front of Anton, but once he was gone, she abused Mary and her sisters cruelly. She represented every terrible stepmother from a story, and the sisters couldn’t believe their father had fallen for someone like her.
They couldn’t do anything. They had to accept it. But things became considerably worse when Mary turned 18.
They still couldn’t do anything. They had no choice but to accept it. But things became significantly worse after Mary turned 18.
“It’s time you started paying rent around here and got your sisters off their lazy bums to do their jobs,” Jane ordered one day, shortly after Mary’s birthday.
“Dad hasn’t even mentioned paying rent to me! I’m still a high school student!” Mary yelled at her stepmother.
“Don’t argue with me or I’ll tell your father you’ve been misbehaving! In fact, you should already be out of the house. You’re 18! At that age, people are on their own. But if you keep yelling at me, I’ll make sure your father kicks you out!” Jane shouted.
But she didn’t see Anton had just arrived, and Mary felt a spark of optimism. Her sisters had also left their rooms to see what all the commotion was about. If her father saw her true nature, he might finally do something.
“I’m not going to pay rent until I graduate from high school and obtain a job. Perhaps you should start paying your own rent instead of relying on my father to cover all of your expenses!” Mary responded, knowing that her words would irritate Jane.
“WHAT DID YOU SAY TO ME, YOU DUMB CHILD? HOW DARE YOU TALK LIKE THAT TO ME? You must respect me!” Jane yelled, her face crimson with rage.
Mary waited for her father to act, but he was observing the whole event. So she looked at him. “Dad, aren’t you going to do something?” Jane questioned, realizing Anton had arrived. She quickly took a step back and burst out crying.
“Dear! Your daughter yelled at me and called me a freeloader!” She sobbed, her crocodile tears flowing freely.
Mary waited, knowing her sisters were there, hoping against hope that their father would finally take their side after months of being subjected to Jane’s horrible behavior.
However, things did not go as planned. Anton began scolding Mary for insulting his wife. “Jane is your stepmother, Mary. You must do what she directs “He said this while crossing his arms, while Jane pretended to cry.
“I’m sorry, Dad, but I can’t pay my rent. First and foremost, I must graduate!” Mary objected.
“I’ll toss you out myself if you don’t start paying rent,” Anton threatened, stunning everyone in the room. Mary’s mind nearly exploded with shock, and Anne and Claire were astounded.
The last straw was Mary catching a glimpse of Jane smirking out of the corner of her eye. “Fine!” she exclaimed as she entered her room.
She hurriedly packed all she could and departed their house. She had no idea what she was doing & no money, but she couldn’t live in that house. She stayed with friends for a while, but her sisters soon followed. They didn’t want to live with Jane either, especially after their father had taken her side in such a silly fight.
However, Mary was concerned. Claire and Anne were both minors. She could end up in big trouble. They remained at friends’ houses as much as they could till they outstayed their welcome. They eventually started looking for help at women’s shelters, which drew the attention of the cops.
Officers forced Anne and Claire to come home, but they always ran away. Nothing, not even homelessness, could keep the three sisters apart. As a result, Mary did her best. Despite her circumstances, she graduated from high school and did her best for her sisters.
They began living beneath a highway bridge in their little town in Virginia, trying to make ends meet as best they could.
A year later, Mary was 19, & she was eating dinner with her sisters in their improvised house beneath the bridge. Mary worked full-time at a grocery shop, so she received food discounts, which benefited them. The cops frequently searched for her sisters, but they finally abandoned them because they didn’t listen and frequently ran away from their house.
But then Officer Frick showed up one night. He was the nicest cop in the precinct and tried to leave them alone, despite how wonderfully Mary cared for them. But this time, he told them all to accompany him to the station.
This was an unusual circumstance. When they arrived at the station, however, they were welcomed by a lawyer. “My name is Mr Samberg, & I’m here to deliver a gift from Mr Daniel Norton,” the man explained.
Mary smirked. “Sir, we don’t know anyone named Daniel Norton. This must be an error, “She stated, but the lawyer did not heed her concerns.
“Mr Norton has left the 3 of you his $4.7 million mansion, and he wants you to move there right away,” Mr Samberg explained.
“Mr Norton has changed ownership of his $4.7 million property to the three of you,” Mr Samberg explained, handing Mary what appeared to be the keys to the mansion.
“This is an error, Sir. That’s what I’m saying. We’ve never met a Mr. Norton “Mary repeated, and her sisters nodded, attempting to persuade the lawyer.
Mr Samberg took a big breath. “Do I understand correctly that you are Jane’s stepdaughter?”
“Jane?” Anne said with disgust.
“Mr Norton’s daughter’s name is Jane. He just learned that Jane’s stepdaughters had fled their house as a result of her. He was outraged. He’s been pleading with Jane to persuade you to return “Mr Samberg began to explain.
“How did he figure it out?” Claire asked.
“Jane persuaded her husband to leave everything to her in his will and to transfer the house title to her name. Mr Norton found this problem because I am the family lawyer. He asked Jane about you girls, & she told them about your escape. She also displayed no remorse, “According to Mr Samberg.
“What occurred after that?” Anne was confused.
“Mr. Norton was irritated and called his contacts at this precinct, who confirmed that they had seen the three of you about. He doesn’t want three ladies to be homeless when he has a large estate to offer. So now you have it.
You can move in right away. Don’t worry, there will be no inheritance taxes to pay. Mr. Norton has already addressed this “The lawyer concluded. “Please allow me to drive you to the estate.”
Officer Frick nodded, persuading the three sisters to accept the journey and the mansion. They followed Mr Samberg to the estate and settled in. Mary was legally granted legal guardianship of her sisters.
Months later, they found that their father had gone bankrupt, and Mr Norton refused to assist his son-in-law or daughter, forcing Jane and Anton to sell their home and live in a rented apartment.
When Jane tried to enter the mansion, Mary did not open the door and contacted the police. She has led away in handcuffs. When Mr Norton died, the 3 sisters received the remainder of his large estate, ensuring they would never have to worry about money again.
I hope this is all true. If it is, I am so happy for the girls, and happy Mr. Norton saw through his own heartless daughter.
I thank you with all my heart.
