As mourners lined the streets all around, the heir to the throne marched solemnly behind the coffin.

Walking behind his grandmother’s coffin, according to Prince William, brought up some upsetting childhood memories.

According to reporter Jane Wells, who placed flowers at the ceremony, “He [Prince William] told us yesterday had been very tough and that seeing the coffin after it had been buried had brought back memories of his mother’s burial, of Diana.

He said that it had been exceedingly tough, according to Metro.

In a BBC special, Prince William and his younger brother Harry, who was just 12 at the time, talk about what it was like to be 15 years old and attend their mother’s burial together.

“Between me being Prince William and having to do his part, vs. the private William who just wanted to go into a room and grieve, who’d lost his mum,” he said, describing the challenge of juggling his sentiments and his royal obligations.

According to Prince William, "When I had a lot of hair and my head was frequently down, I just recall hiding behind my fringe in such situation.

Prince William said, “I know that seems absurd today, but I needed it to get through the day at the time.

The Queen’s four children, King Charles III, Prince Andrew, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward, marched in the procession with the two princes. Other members of the Royal Family also participated.

The Imperial State Crown was placed on a purple velvet cushion, and a wreath of white flowers was placed on top of the casket, which was draped in the Royal Standard.

The singers of Westminster Abbey and His Majesty’s Chapel Royal, St. James’s Palace, performed Psalm 139 at the conclusion of the march from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall.

Following the reading of the opening prayer by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the King seemed to follow through on the order of service.
