While the world mourns Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning queen in British history, Prince Harry mourns his grandmother.
This morning, the Duke of Sussex issued a moving statement, which is still available on Archewell’s website, celebrating the late monarch’s legacy and remembering her life as the matriarch of their family.
“We are all reminded of the guiding direction she was to so many in her commitment to service and duty as we celebrate and mourn the life of my grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen. She was well admired and loved “He wrote. “Her unfailing grace and dignity held true throughout her life and are now her enduring legacy.”
“Life, of all, comprises of last partings as well as first meets,” Harry added, recalling the queen’s sentiments after the death of her husband of more than 70 years, Prince Philip.
“Granny, while this ultimate parting brings us great pain, I will be eternally thankful for all of our first meetings—from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my wonderful wife and hugged your adored great-grandchildren,”
Harry wrote a letter. “I treasure these days spent with you, as well as the many other unique moments in between. You are already deeply missed, not just by us, but by the entire globe. In terms of our first meetings, we now honor my father in his new capacity as King Charles III.”
In his tribute, Harry praised his late grandmother for her “passion to service,” “good guidance,” and “infectious laughter.”
“We, too, smile knowing that you and Grandpa are reunited now, and both together in peace,” he added.
Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday, September 8, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, surrounded by her family.
