For leading the English-language remake of “Goodnight Mommy” on Amazon Prime Video, Naomi Watts recently received good reviews. She stars in “The Watcher,” the newest Netflix thriller from Ryan Murphy.
Additionally, she’ll be working with the mega-producer once more to resume her role as Babe Paley in the second season of the Capote-focused FX drama “Feud.”
All of this is to say that despite what an unknown Hollywood person informed Watts after her breakout role in David Lynch’s “Mulholland Drive,” her acting career is thriving. When Watts was 33, it was considered old in Hollywood.
It was said to me, “You better get a lot done because it’s all over when you are 40, and you become unf*ckable. And I’m like, “What?” What does that actually mean? Previously, Watts told Entertainment Weekly.
“Then you give it some thought and think, ‘Oh, right. When your reproductive system is no longer active, and your se*xual organs are no longer attractive, you are no longer employable. I was just so outraged by that.
Watts said when asked what Hollywood might do to better accommodate women who reach a certain age, “It’s such a difficult subject because, from day one, we begin our aging process. Women are required to perform it more frequently than males. Thus we all need to get used to it.
Watts said, “We hardly ever talk about a man becoming older. “We avoid discussing his gray hair. It’s actually like, “Oh, he gets more handsome, more desired, and more powerful” if we do.
And what makes him so strong? Due to the experiences, he has gained. The same ought to apply to women. We should be proud of the important and impactful experiences we have at this age.
Watts’ story is merely the most recent illustration of how Hollywood’s female stars must deal with the idea that they are “fu*kable.” Earlier in her career, an unidentified male director repeatedly tried to make Charlize Theron look more “fu*kable” in their movie.
Charlize Theron has made headlines for disclosing this “belittling” incident.
Theron said, “A big one that really fu*king irritated me for years is having absolutely no choice over what you’re wearing.” “Stuff like that is incredibly demeaning, having some guy make you have fits almost in front of them. There was no discussion about it when I began. “This is what you’re wearing,” it said.
“I recall one movie in particular,” Theron added, “this guy director who just kept bringing me in, fitting after fitting after… And it was just so clear that it had something to do with my sexuality and how fu*kable they could make me in the movie. And when I first began out, that was really standard.
You can watch Watts’ performance in “The Watcher” on Netflix on October 13.
