Following her confession that she has been sucking in her stomach since she was 11 years old, Jamie Lee Curtis stated that she wants to end the practice of masking how our bodies actually look.
The 63-year-old actor and writer decided against using prosthetics in favor of letting her natural tummy show for her most recent performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
After speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the award-winning actress shared on Instagram her opinions on the demands of the beauty industry and how she’s coping with them (EW).

The caption reads in part, “I’m Deirdre Beaubeirdra, an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax auditor, sitting at a desk munching a biscuit, letting my natural figure show.” “The practice of concealing things is a billion- or trillion-dollar industry worldwide.
“Concealers. Body-shapes. Procedures. Fillers. Clothing. hair ornaments. Haircare items. Everything is done to hide who we really are.”
However, she continued, “I’m going to change this on the set. “I wanted there to be no hiding of anything, and that was my order to everyone. Since the age of 11, when you start becoming mindful of boys and bodies and the jeans are extremely tight, I have been suckling in the stomach.”
“I made a very deliberate decision to loosen every muscle I had clenched to conceal the truth. That was the aim.”
“I have never felt more liberated creatively and physically,” Curtis continued.
Many applauded Curtis for bringing attention to the problem, which frequently reinforces unrealistic standards for how women, in particular, should look.
Keegan Connor Tracy, a Canadian actor, said, “Such an ignorant culture we have. Even if it shouldn’t be, this is daring. Brava!”
Fans flocked to the comments section to express their adoration for the actor. “One person replied, “I love and respect you more than ever!!!!”
Another wrote, “FINALLY what needed to be said, but too many either don’t care enough or are afraid to say it. I appreciate that you did not choose to wear a fat suit or prosthetics. You appear genuine, not like a cartoon version of a human physique.”
Many people commented on the look that was so symbolic of the IRS, saying, “Having just retired from my job at the IRS, I can assure you that you nailed the look.”
Daniel Kwan, one of the movie’s directors, made it plain in the EW interview that Curtis insisted on seeming as “genuine” as possible on screen. Everyone believes her belly in the movie is a prosthetic, but in reality, it’s her real tummy, he added.
She felt appreciative of being able to express herself freely.
Curtis admitted to Fast Company last year that she had previously had plastic surgery and that it had not been successful for her. “I developed a Vicodin addiction as a result of it. I’ve been clean for 22 years now “She spoke.
“Generations of beauty are being wiped out by the current trend of fillers and procedures, this obsession with filters, and the things we do to alter our image on Zoom. You cannot get your face back once you have messed with it.”
Other well-known people who have expressed regret over cosmetic surgery include Courteney Cox, who claimed that changing her face made her seem “weird,” Linda Evangelista, who claimed that her treatment left her “brutally scarred,” and Molly-Mae, who recently decided to undo all of her procedures.
Everything Everywhere made its world premiere at the 2022 SXSW Festival on March 11th after being created two years earlier, just before the pandemic began.
