Rejections cannot be rejected no matter who you are. Life is a journey full of ups and downs. The price of a particular product depends on the quality of the product. If your dreams are so big, then you have to pay more. You are spending means not money but the rejections and failures you have to overcome.
In the human body, there is a hormone called “Adrenaline .”It is secreted under stressful circumstances. The secretion of Adrenaline gives two options to our body. That is fight or flight. Either you have to run away from the situation or fight again in that situation. When life hits us with rejections, you have two options: running away from that situation and losing your dream or fighting and handling rejections to improve your goals. The choice is yours.
Take a little time and look back in your life. From childhood onwards, you would have undergone lots of rejections. You could be rejected from your preschool band team. You could be rejected from your school soccer team. Your first love could reject you. Different colleges and universities could reject you during your higher education. In every stage of human life, rejection is a part of being a part and will be a part of the process of achieving your dream.
Don’t think that you alone have to undergo these rejections and failures in your life. The worldly leaders, people in business, and great scientists have also experienced many more sacrifices than you and me.
Michael Jordan, one of the greatest players in basketball, got rejected from his school basketball team. Jack ma, the founder of Alibaba and one of the richest men globally, got rejected from many job interviews, even from KFC, and many universities and colleges.
The “Harry Potter” book by J.K.Rowling got rejected around 12 times.
One of the great film directors, Steven spill burg, was denied three times by the University of Southern California school of theatre, film. Sylvester Stallone got rejected around thousand times during auditions. Abraham Lincoln, one of the History makers in the history of the United States of America, was rejected by people during the presidential election. The rejection of Dr. A.P.J Abdul kalam by the Indian Air force for the pilot post made him one of the great rocket scientists in India. His school teacher rejected even Thomas Alva Edison.
Think, for a while, did these rejections prevent Thomas Alva Edison from discovering the bulb? Or prevent Abraham Lincoln from fighting against slavery. Of course, no, because these people were capable enough to handle their rejections to improve their dreams day by day. Once Sylvester Stallone said,
“I take rejection as a person blowing a bugle near my ear to wake me up and get going,
rather than retreat. Rejection is inevitable. But you choose whether to let the pain of
rejection ruin your entire life or make that pain again. Sometimes rejection in life is
redirection. It is like a warning. You have to think about what got you rejected and rectify
those issues. Self-realization will improve your dreams.
If the challenge exists, so must the solution.”
There are ways in which you can handle your rejections to improve your dream.
Acknowledge the pain
It is indeed that being rejected is painful. Let yourself feel the pain. The pain depends on how much you wanted that particular thing badly. That thing could be anything. If you’re going to cry, don’t ignore it. Cry much as you like because nature has given you a spot near the eyes to cry. According to Psychologists, if you suppress the feeling of pain, it will direct you to do potentially destructive activities like overconsumption of alcohol.
Sometimes it affects you mentally and makes you spend your time in solitude. This will further increase your mental stress and makes you mentally as well as physically weak.
On the other hand, it would create an inferiority complex within you. You would tend to consider others as your enemy and criticize them. You may feel that only the activity of others made you rejected.
So, let yourself grieve and acknowledge the pain. It means finding the real reason that makes you suffer. Finding reasons could help find a solution. You can try some constructive activities like journaling, exercising, going for a walk, talking to friends, reading some self-development books, etc. These activities will let you be calm and at peace.
Be prepared
Everything has two sides, like a coin with heads and tails. When we toss the equal chances or mathematically, there is only a 50 percent chance to obtain heads and tails. Life is also the same. Every activity has a 50 percent chance of going as planned mathematically. So, you have to anticipate that sometimes this particular thing is not obtainable, or sometimes I may not get selected for this specific role for this particular company. I am not telling you not to have a confident or positive attitude but not to have overconfident. Do the things at your best and let nature do the rest.
According to Psychologists, when the human brain gets the chance to visualize or anticipate the desired outcome, it creates an illumination that the victory is already achieved. It makes you excited and causes you to feel much pleasure. This false excitement builds immense pain if you are unsuccessful. Always try to be in the ground state and be prepared for anything as there are some unpredictable things. This pre-preparation will help you handle your rejections.
Don’t underestimate yourself
People blame themselves when things go wrong or for being rejected. They consider themselves unworthy, stupid, unlovable, and hardly suitable for anything. This feeling is due to a lack of emotional intelligence. Sometimes, you would be well qualified for a position that you have applied for. But CEO has chosen their relative for that position by rejecting you. In this case, you can’t blame yourself.
You didn’t screw up. You are a better fit for that post. Sometimes we don’t belong to certain people and certain places. It is not because we don’t deserve them, but they don’t deserve us. God’s plan is different than yours on some occasions. But his plan is always much better than ours.
When we look back on history, many brilliant people too got rejected. As I have mentioned, Jack ma got rejected by KFC. He didn’t underestimate himself. So, don’t let the pain swallow your dreams. Always believe that you are strong, you are unstoppable, and you are not responsible for things that are beyond your control.
This mindset will help you handle rejections and improve your pathway to achieving your dream.
Be resilient
“It is not the strongest of a species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one’s most resilience and responsive to change.”
The sole reason why bamboo is used to make almost everything is due to its resilience. In the same way, if you are resilient, you can quickly recover from the pain of rejection. To improve your resilience, work together, do regular exercise, practice meditation, eat healthily, prioritize your relationship, help others and move towards your dream.
Even iron is melted to increase its resilience to craft astonishing sculptures that immensely increase the worth of metal iron. Pains and rejections make you stronger and more resilient. Life is full of twists and turns. It would be easy if you were resilient to adapt to those twists and turns. So, develop resilience such that rejections cannot stop your footsteps towards your dream.
Be thankful and grow.
It is good in everything. Even the rejection too has good in it. It is a place where we have to stop thinking of ourselves and what made us get rejected? What bad qualities that I have to get mature? You have to do self-acknowledgment. If you can, find your mistakes and start work on them to rectify those. Always think that all is well. Leave the past. But learn from the experience. Experience is the best mentor, but the cost it takes is high. Life is full of opportunities. It will give another opportunity for sure. You have to wait for it patiently. Get prepared for it. Once the chance comes, grasp it.
Everything happens for a good reason. Be thankful for the pains and obstacles you go through. They make it much more robust and wiser. Don’t let them break you. Let them make you. Remember that “A calm sea has never made a skilled sailor.”
Rejections are our guides on the path to achieving our dream. They only reveal to us where to stop and where to turn. Without rejections, we cannot achieve our goal. If our pathway is smooth, we are traveling on the wrong path. Consider rejections as the path changes. Only the hardships and rejections often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny. So, handle your rejections and improve your dreams.
