Bachelor parties are typically associated with vice, not virtue. Still, some guys who were partying in the woods got the chance to do something extremely wonderful, so they took it.
Mitchell Craddock, a resident of Vicksburg, Michigan, was in a cabin in the Tennessee woods with seven of his friends to celebrate Craddock’s upcoming wedding. One morning as they were preparing breakfast, a special female visitor arrived at the door.
In an interview with The Dodo, the groom’s friend Trevor Jennings said, “It all started while we were preparing bacon on our first morning on vacation with the door to the cabin open.” Then, out of nowhere, they noticed a mother dog sitting near the doorway.
When we went outside to pet her, that’s when we realized she was in bad shape, according to Jennings. “You could see her ribs, and she ate every bit of food we offered her,” Jennings said.
She drank bowl after bowl of water.
Although it was clear that she had puppies at some point, Jennings stated that because she was not nursing when she came across them, they appeared to be larger.
The bachelor’s party kept going. When they returned from their business in the town, she was waiting for them. Every time we came back, she would greet us outside.
The groom, Craddock, told ABC News that the dog was so loving that after we earned her trust, she was happy to see us and wagged her tail. “For the beer and food, we pooled a lot of cash. After the third day, our beer money was converted to a fund for dog food.”
The boys continued to look after the girl who crashed the party while also bringing back some dog food. However, especially at night, “we observed she was really protective of a certain location in the woods,” Jennings added. “So one morning, we made the decision to head over there, and that’s when we discovered the den and noticed a pup poking his head out.”
All seven puppies were pulled out of the hole by one of the guys who dove headfirst into the hole. The mother dog was given the name Annie.
The bachelor party changed a little bit after that.
To create beds for the dogs, the boys put out their luggage. They left the house to buy supplies.
After that, the guys bathed the puppies for the first time. Due to their dirt and flea infestation, Jennings said, “We bathed all the dogs.”
The guys had no intention of allowing the dogs to return to the woods after this. Between the boys and their families, every single puppy was shared.
The grandparents of the bride-to-be took in the mother dog, Annie, and one of her puppies.
We all hang together most weekends because we live close to one another (approximately 5 miles apart), according to Jennings. To ensure that the dogs continue to interact, “we usually bring the dogs along with us.” One of the male puppies was kept by Jennings and given the name Gunner.
It was certainly not what the two of us had anticipated when we loaded up and drove eight hours to spend a week together, according to Jennings. The fact that we were able to help Annie and her puppies made us all happy, and it also seemed fated that we returned to Michigan with eight dogs and eight men.
Jennings replied, “I wouldn’t call myself an animal lover,” when asked if he would. “I really do love dogs, and we all had family dogs before the trip. But this is the first rescue dog I’ve ever owned.”
The bachelor party, in my opinion, was a success, he said.
