Michael Jackson passed away on June 25, 2009. The actor overdosed on drugs and medications, which led to a cardiac arrest, according to the autopsy performed on his corpse. Later, his doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray, was arrested, accused of involuntary manslaughter, and convicted. He received a four-year jail term.
Exclusive interviews with those closest to the King of Pop were featured in the recent TV series “TMZ Investigates: Who Really Killed Michael Jackson.” Debbie Rowe, the mother of two of the star’s children, participated in the documentary.
In the last years of the 1980s, Jackson and Rowe met. She was Arnold Klein’s nurse, working with him as a dermatologist. They became friends through Jackson’s protracted treatment for the skin condition vitiligo.
Rowe remained away when Jackson later wed Lisa Marie Presley in 1994 and divorced her in 1996. Jackson wanted children as soon as possible, whereas Lisa Marie subsequently claimed their breakup was due to her wish to delay having children.
According to Lisa Marie, Jackson threatened her by suggesting that if she didn’t have his babies, Rowe would.
Jackson wed Rowe in the same year, 1996. Rowe gave birth to Jackson’s first child, Prince Jackson, on February 13, 1997, one year later. Her daughter Paris Jackson was born on April 8, 1998, a year later.
Rowe was shown in the new documentary crying over memories of Jackson. She got pretty emotional as she talked about how the King of Pop had developed a painkiller addiction.
She said she could have helped him before he passed away. Rowe said: “I should have taken action, but I didn’t. I contributed in some manner to the deaths of many others who struggled with addiction.”
Rowe reportedly preferred to focus on Klein, the doctor, rather than Jackson directly.”I was basically as horrible as him [Klein], and I’m really sorry I got involved,” Rowe said. Through The Sun
The Jackson family has spoken about Rowe’s relationship with Michael since she was included in the documentary earlier this month.
According to The Sun’s unnamed source, “Some of the more senior Jackson family members are confused by Debbie’s choice to talk on this show about what she knew about Dr. Klein. Debbie hasn’t exactly been this open with some of the brothers, so it’s surprising to hear her speak on TV.”
The insider continued: “It is odd for Klein to discuss Klein on the Who Killed Michael Jackson show and concede that she should have stopped his client-handling style. They are quite upset by that. Katherine feels really bad. She and her colleagues are confused as to why Debbie has chosen, after all these years, to end her quiet over that aspect of her life.”
Jackson and the 63-year-old ended their relationship in 1999. She was awarded an astounding $8 million and a Beverly Hills home as part of the settlement.
She went to a judge in 2001, following the divorce, to ask for the cancellation of her parental obligations to Prince and Paris.Rowe went back to the courtroom in 2004 to get her parental rights restored after Jackson was accused of abusing 10 children.
Later, she was open about her connection with her kids.
Rowe stated in 2003: “You acquire the role of parent. I have done nothing at all to deserve that title. Michael was the sole parent, so that explains everything. I did not do it in order to be a mother. I skipped the diaper change. Even though I was present, I didn’t get out of bed in the middle of the night; Michael did.”
She agreed with Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mother and the guardian of Prince and Paris, to grant her visiting rights in August 2009, two months after Jackson’s passing.
