After "Accidentally" Purchasing A $100,000 Couch, Tiktoker Begs For Money

A TikToker with 7.9 million followers is receiving criticism after she begged viewers for money, claiming she “accidentally” spent $100,000 on a couch.

The video was published on October 6 by Quenlin Blackwell, age 21. The video appears to show her crying in a moving car as she claims to have input her credit card information to bid on a couch online. Blackwell said in the video that she entered her card information “jokingly,” but the website nonetheless added the charge to her account.

“I mistakenly bought a $100,000 couch,” said an on-screen caption on the post.

“She said in the video, which had 5.3 million views as of Wednesday, “If you have a million dollars, could you please donate? I almost crashed my car when I saw that. Could you possibly let me borrow some money if you have a billion dollars?”

Blackwell’s video received comments from viewers who questioned why she would enter her card information if she had no intention of purchasing the couch.

One of the top comments, which received 52,000 likes, said, “Girl who puts in card info as a JOKE.” Another commenter asked, “ILY, BUT WHY PUT YOUR INFO IN.”

“They won’t give me a refund on the couch,” read the description of Blackwell’s subsequent TikTok, which she released on Monday. She explained that she intended to open an OnlyFans account in order to generate money, adding, “I don’t want to, but I’m going to have to,” and mentioning the fact that she also required cash for dental work and the replacement of a side mirror for her car.

“I do not want to work. Since I know I won’t be getting a refund, I’m going to throw up, “According to her on camera.

Blackwell updated her Instagram bio to include a link to her OnlyFans account.

Some commenters under Blackwell’s second TikTok video claimed they didn’t think her account was true.

Commenters said, “She gotta be pranking us,” and “You been taking acting classes, huh.”

Others who did believe the story did not seem to feel sorry for the influencer, claiming that they thought because of her enormous following that, she must have rich and famous contacts who might assist her.

Another added, “Ask your rich buddies,” while another said, “Dude, ask your 100+ famous friends for some help.”

Blackwell did not immediately react to Insider’s request for comment as of Wednesday and did not appear to have publicly addressed the criticism.

Blackwell started using TikTok in late 2019 and primarily posts dancing and vlog-style videos. She also maintains a YouTube channel with 950,000 subscribers, where she shares food and lifestyle videos.

She made headlines in October 2020 when she was 19 years old and claimed in a TikTok Live that she was living with DJ and producer Diplo, who was at the time 41 years old.

In a tweet in response, he claimed that although he had rented one of his apartments to her, their relationship was one of “nothing but friendship,” which she confirmed.

Influencers frequently gain support when they urge their fans to donate to charitable causes, but they frequently come under fire when they do the same for personal expenses.

Insider reported in March that weight-loss influencer Lexi Reed, who has more than 1 million Instagram followers, came under fire for creating a GoFundMe page to cover medical expenses after claiming to have been admitted to the hospital due to organ failure.

People “seem to assume I’m some sort of millionaire,” Reed told Insider, adding that this was “far from” the truth. Reed is an influencer.
