A Man With A Golden Heart Saves 450 Dogs

Can you believe me if I say a man saved 450 dogs? It’s hard to believe, but it’s a true story.

Every dog would have a home in a perfect world. But we don’t live in an ideal world, do we? Try explaining it to Serbia’s Sasa Peji.

In a city (Ni, Serbia) where stray dog life conditions are appalling – dangerous streets or violent dogcatchers – Sasa did not wait for the government, NGOs, or shelters to intervene; instead, this dog lover took action on his own. Here’s proof that one individual can still make a difference in the world:

How Only One Man Saved 450 Homeless Dogs

Sasa couldn’t bear seeing the misery of street dogs all around him – abused, starved, and lonely dogs could be found everywhere. Death at the hands of dogcatchers was the only choice to live on the streets.

Sasa transformed an old equestrian club barn into a home for the street dogs he saves. The Harmony Fund is a wonderful sanctuary. It’s not because of how many dogs live there, but because of how they live!

All 450 dogs are vaccinated and microchipped, and they are well-loved and cared for. Instead of being chained to cages or kennels in a warehouse, the dogs are free to run about and play all day. This lovely project has received supporters among city people, with many of them being supported by generous people.

Until the dogs are adopted, they can run around on the farm and get belly rubs from Sasa. They spend their nights resting inside, where it is warm and safe for them. 88 of the dogs currently have sponsors who assist pay for their care.

Sasa knows each of the dogs by name, surrounded by hundreds of dogs wagging their tails and running free on fenced-off grounds in a Serbian town.

“I know how each dog arrived at my shelter, I know their names, and I know their personalities,” Pesic explains as he pats one of his pets.

It now houses over 450 dogs, but Pesic may soon have to move his canine horde since the city requires him to do so.

Does Sasa Get Any Funds From Any Association?

To promote awareness about Sasa’s work and encourage people to donate to his efforts, and help him rescue the lives of these once-abandoned puppies, the Harmony Fund published this lovely video of the dogs playing in the sanctuary.

Laura Simpson, the founder of the Harmony Fund, told The Dodo, “Here they are loved and not expected to do anything other than be dogs.” “Many are adopted out to good homes around the world, while others will spend their final days at the shelter.”

These dogs would be without a home, food, or hope if it weren’t for Peji. Their lives are virtually doggie paradise, thanks to him.
