After playing Ellen Ripley in the Alien series in the late 1970s, Sigourney Weaver rose to the status of one of the greatest movie heroines. But the sci-fi icon also has a sharp mind to go along with her boldness. Weaver completed her undergraduate work in English at Stanford University before earning her master’s degree at Yale.
2. Tatyana Ali
Following the conclusion of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, co-star Will Smith went on to dominate Hollywood, but Tatyana Ali opted to dominate Harvard. Having played Ashley Banks in the popular sitcom, the actress earned a degree in African-American history and government. Ali also discovered the sound dancing style known as step there, demonstrating that it wasn’t all work and no play.
3. Emma Watson
Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series, attended one of the most well-known fictional schools, Hogwarts. The actor, however, studied at two slightly more academic universities in the actual world. Watson graduated from Brown University with a degree in English literature, but she also spent a brief time at Worcester College in Oxford while she was a student there.
4. Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart quickly withdrew from her Twilight background with a number of well-regarded arthouse movies. Additionally, the actress showcased her creativity in 2017 by having a paper published by Cornell University. “Bringing Impressionism to Life with Neural Style Transfer in Come Swim,” a piece written by Stewart, David Shapiro, and Bhautik Joshi, was published. No, neither did we.
5. Shakira
With music released in both her native Spanish and English, Shakira has achieved international chart-topping success. The singer of “Waka (This Time for Africa)” is also proficient in several other languages. The hip-shaking Colombian, whose instantly identifiable voice made an appearance in the animated film Zootropolis, is also fluent in four additional languages: French, Catalan, Italian, and Portuguese.
6. Karlie Kloss
You probably don’t picture the Victoria’s Secret Angel runway when you think about computer programming. Karlie Kloss, though, is quickly working to break the geek label. The supermodel enjoys nothing more than doing some coding after a challenging day of shooting for Vogue magazine. The Zoolander 2 actor even started a scholarship program in an effort to encourage more girls to pursue careers in the area.
7. Ashley Judd
Throughout her early years, Ashley Judd walked the hallways of more than a dozen different schools. Since she graduated from high school, you might assume she would have completed her schooling. However, the Double Jeopardy contestant went on to study French at the University of Kentucky. Judd graduated in 2007 after delaying her education to seek stints in the Peace Corps and Hollywood. She received her certification both there and on Ellen’s daytime talk show.
8. Danica McKellar
Danica McKellar will forever be Winnie Cooper to those of us who grew up in the late 1980s/early 1990s. However, the actress has demonstrated her intelligence ever since leaving The Wonder Years. McKellar earned a degree in mathematics from UCLA, where she also co-authored several academic articles, including “Percolation and Gibbs states multiplicity for ferromagnetic Ashkin-Teller models.”
9. Ed Norton
Edward Norton, who starred in American History X, also happened to have studied history at Yale before beginning his film career. The two-time Oscar nominee also spent some time in Osaka working at a charity that his grandfather founded. During his stay there, Norton also found the opportunity to master the martial art of aikido and Japanese.
10. Mindy Kaling
Mindy Kaling initially chose to major in Latin at Dartmouth College before recognizing that theater was more a fit for her skills. At the turn of the century, the Mindy Project creator went on to win the Eleanor Frost Playwriting Award. After that, she wrote two books: Why Not Me? Also, Is Everyone Socializing Without Me? (And Other Concerns).
11. Issa Rae
Issa Rae has a distinguished academic background and is regarded as one of the most significant black voices of her time. The star of the HBO comedy series Insecure graduated from Stanford with a degree in African and African-American studies. Rae developed her skills as an actor, writer, and director there as well.
12. Jordana Brewster
Perhaps it was inevitable that Jordana Brewster would be accepted to Yale. After all, her grandpa Kingman had previously served as the university’s president. But once the Fast and the Furious star arrived, that didn’t mean she could unwind. I was under a lot of pressure to earn decent grades, Brewster admitted to People magazine. I would have enjoyed myself more had I joined a sorority.
13. Nolan Gould
One of the characters in Modern Family that Nolan Gould played might have been the most uneducated. However, this was not an instance of life imitating art. The boy had already finished high school as he approached his teen years. The person best known as Luke Dunphy is also a member of Mensa and has a phenomenal IQ of 150.
14. Elizabeth Banks
Elizabeth Banks studied theatrical arts and communications at the University of Pennsylvania, where she received her B.A. before appearing in films like Pitch Perfect and The Hunger Games. Additionally, her schooling didn’t stop there. After that, Banks transferred to the American Conservatory Theater, where she earned her M.A.
15. Colin Firth
In Richard Curtis’ romantic anthology Love Actually, Colin Firth made a name for himself as a writer. The Oscar winner apparently has a way with words in real life. Political Orientations Are Correlated with Brain Structure in Young Adults is the title of a study paper Firth co-authored in 2011. There were four authors in total.
