Although Meghan Markle and Prince Harry retired from their roles as senior working royals in March 2020, a source claims the duchess never appreciated the importance of royal walkabouts.
Meghan allegedly “failed to appreciate the meaning” behind the scenes, according to a source, even though the Duke and Duchess were well-liked throughout their royal tours. Meghan didn’t understand the purpose of all those walkabouts, shaking hands with countless people, although she liked the attention.
The Times released an extract from Valentine Low’s newest book, Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, in which multiple staff workers recalled Meghan stating, “I can’t believe I’m not getting paid for this,” at least once.
Due to Meghan’s “refreshingly casual style,” a source informed Mr. Low that the pair was “going down a storm” on their first official tour of Australia.
However, it appears that things were different behind the scenes. The insider also stated that the tour was “extremely tough” and “made worse by the behavior of the duchess,” according to Jason Knauf, the couple’s former communications secretary.
The allegations surfaced only a few days after Harry and Meghan left London for their home in the US following the Queen’s burial.
As rumors of rifts with senior royals deepen, the pair has remained far from the Royal Family since moving away.
The pair briefly reconnected with Kate and William, the Prince and Princess of Wales, during a walkabout in the area of Windsor following the Queen’s passing and before the funeral.
They interacted with the general public there and gave Her Majesty flower tributes.
Following the passing of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, Harry is fifth in line to the throne, but it is not yet known if his children, Archie and Lilibet, will inherit any regal titles.
Harry and Meghan’s children will immediately become Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex now that Charles is King, although this has not yet been verified.
There is debate over whether the King will bestow the titles because he is said to be considering a “slimmed down monarchy.”
Last week, Meghan and Harry surprised everyone by going on a walkabout to thank the mourners. They were joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales.
The Sussexes left for the US in March 2020. Thus it was the first time the “great four” had been together since then.
The presentation was planned by Prince William, who also invited Meghan and Harry to attend.
The action, described as a “significant gesture of solidarity,” raised expectations for improvement in the brother’s tense relationship.
Charles also wished Meghan and Harry the best in his first speech as King and expressed his affection for them as “they continue to construct their life overseas.”
