Queen Elizabeth II has been writing to a woman in Park River, North Dakota, for the last 70 years despite never having seen her in person.
According to KFYR, the late Queen of England and Adele Hankey, 96, both had April 21 birthdays.
When Elizabeth was crowned in 1953, Hankey sent the first letter. Since then, the late Queen has made the tradition of sending Hankey handwritten birthday letters every year, per the outlet.
Hankey told the magazine, “I could have leaped out of my shoes.” “I requested a hat from her. She was going to send me one, I was hoping. On the other hand, she sent a nice birthday photo.”
The two had a mutual love of cooking, but Hankey said they had never met.
“The Queen favored dishes that used marmalade. And I agree. So, how about that?” stated Hankey.
Hankey told the publication that she would miss talking to her friend, the late Queen of England and that she would miss their letters.
