Bully, who was born in 1999, has witnessed numerous historical events since his birth, including the first iPhone’s release, the emergence of social media, and many more, but the Chihuahua is unlikely to be able to share any of them with you.
But when the little dog turned 23, his owners threw a celebration to mark the occasion that he would cherish for years.
Bully was raised by a devoted family for the first 21 years of his life. During this time, he enjoyed the company of his people, played outside, and went for runs in the neighborhood park. The senior dog found his way to Chris Hughes and his wife’s senior dog rescue organization, The Mr. Mo Project when his elderly owner was no longer able to care for him.
Bully was regarded by his previous owner as “a large dog in a little dog’s body,” and Hughes discovered that despite Bully’s late age, he had not changed in the slightest.
Hughes praised Bully as being “feisty, naughty, sweet, independent, gentle, peaceful, and he has an old man bark.” Even in his older years, he enjoys attempting to push one of our Chihuahuas around.
Bully needs more sleep now that he is older than a normal puppy. Bully enjoys sleeping, and he has earned the right to do so, Hughes added. He will fall asleep everywhere, sometimes in the middle of the kitchen floor, on a pee pad, or the biggest, coziest bed in the corner.
The Hughes family offered Bully the two things he loves most in the world—treats and a nap—and decorated their home in Bully’s honor for the occasion. Hughes explained, “He doesn’t have many teeth, so we purchased a soft biscuit and crushed it up for him to enjoy. “The best gift to give him is sleep, which he truly appreciates,”
Hughes throws parties to celebrate every occasion with the senior dogs in their care to ensure they all feel special.
Hughes stated, “We try to appreciate all the fantastic things that happen in our home because there are so many not-so-great things that happen.” We host birthday parties, adoption ceremonies, and Christmas in July celebrations when we believe someone won’t live through the holiday season. We also celebrate when canines complete chemotherapy treatments.
Bully will be able to celebrate a lot more occasions because of the Hughes family. He earned it at the age of 23.
