It will take years for the pages of their family’s adventure book to be filled with pictures from this boy’s “Up” photo shoot with his great-grandparents.
Since her children share the same birthday week, photographer and mother of three Rachel Perman decided to create “magical shoots” for them. It was the ideal opportunity to highlight her son’s “Up” obsession.

Elijah, who is “borderline addicted to ‘Up,'” according to Perman, “particularly enjoys the house, the balloons, and the beautiful decorations.”
The house with balloons, the only books he wants to check out from the library, & the only toy he wanted when traveling to Disney World the previous year is all that her 5-year-old son ever draws or colors, according to Perman. “It was my idea and a surprise for him to invite his great grandparents because he loves ‘Up. He admired how well-dressed they were.
One day, she and Elijah cut out cereal boxes and painted them by hand to make the prop for the house tied to the vibrant balloon arrangement.
The Colorado family gathered together on Monday, and in only 30 minutes, they completed the session.
Perman’s grandparents, Richard and Caroline Bain, who both turn 90 this year, “were excited to participate” as Carl & Ellie from the beloved 2009 Disney/Pixar movie.
Grandpa even went to a second-hand shop to buy the jacket, she added.
Even though neither he nor his wife had ever seen the movie, Richard Bain was shown a picture of his character Carl before it was even released.
Perman had an emotional motivation for celebrating the twins’ fifth birthday with such a considerate photoshoot.
Perman said, “For their fifth birthday, I wanted to honor the things they love with photography. Immediately following the birth of my twins, I received a cancer diagnosis five years ago, and I worried about whether I would live to see their fifth birthday.
Perman, who has since entered remission, recalled that her oldest child, Mikayla, was just five years old at the time, & she “hated not knowing if I would get the same time with the twins that I got with her.”
She also presented her daughter Emilee, Elijah’s twin sister who “loves all things girlie and princess,” with a horse that had a unicorn horn.
“She was thrilled!” said Perman.
The children loved the shooting. They were eager to do something special because they saw me frequently go to shoot pictures of other people, according to their mother.
She went on to say that they are now looking forward to their big sister’s upcoming 10th birthday photo session. It has not yet been decided on a theme for that birthday party.
“I had no idea this would get attention! Seeing how many individuals are impacted by it has been enjoyable. You are good at making us happy, I keep reminding the kids. Now you’re also bringing happiness to the country!'”
The celebratory shot also added to Perman and her husband’s feeling of comfort.
Perman said, “I told my husband, ‘I’m delighted to know what’s been driving us mad for two years is finally paying off.'” We all had a wonderful time celebrating.
