A father who had lost his family makes the decision to adopt a little child who is rejected due to his Down syndrome. Years later, a lawyer contacts him with some unexpected information.
David lost both his child and wife while her wife was giving birth to his baby.
Days later, after Rita ( David’s wife ) and their child had been buried and everyone except Dave appeared to be ready to move on, Dave woke up in a quiet house. On Rita’s side of the bed, he extended his hand. Empty.
He was suddenly overcome with a thought. You can only fill a hole with love, not with hate. Who said that? Dave questioned. Somewhere, he had heard that. That thought may now be able to save his life.
Inquiring about fostering or adopting a kid, Dave made contact with social services. The social worker hesitated at first. She said, “We don’t typically give kids to single parents. “Even so, it has become more widespread.”
Dave stated, “I have a good life. “I can give a child a lot, especially love. I wish to fulfil the parental dream that my wife and I shared.”
Picking up a file covered in numerous colourful stickers, the social worker looked inside. Would you think about a child with special needs?
Dave shook his head. All children are unique, and they all have requirements, he said softly. “We can never predict what God will send. I’ll take the kid who is in need.”
Of course, Dave had to go through many interviews and participate in parenting classes, but eventually, the big day arrived. His son was revealed to him.
The social worker said, “We have a small kid who has been through three different foster families. “Sam is two years old and goes by Sam. He possesses Down syndrome.”
Dave questioned, “Where is he?”
You should be aware of Sam’s health difficulties, the social worker stated.
Dave said, “I’ll take him to the doctor.” “He’ll receive anything he needs.”
Sam and Dave fell in love at first sight. The cutest infant he had ever seen was Sam!
Sam was initially reserved, but as he started to appreciate Dave’s love and compassion for him, he began to gently come out of his shell. Dave couldn’t understand why someone would reject such a cute youngster.
Of course, Sam took a little longer to accomplish his developmental goals, and the doctor warned him that they would need to monitor his heart, but other than that, he was almost perfect!
When he saw Sam sleeping, he would whisper, “Rita,” to his deceased wife. “I fulfilled our dream, and I poured love into the hole you and our child left in my life.”
Sam developed as quickly as any other child throughout the course of the years. He had a healthy heart, according to the doctor. He was a pleasant, upbeat young man who made friends with everyone he encountered. Sam’s grin and genuine happiness were impossible to resist.
Dave struggled to keep up with Sam’s hectic social schedule as the phone rang nonstop with invites to sleepovers and playdates.
Later, a lawyer called him on the phone. “Mr Wallace,” he said. “I’m calling on behalf of the biological parent of your adopted son.”
How can I help you? Dave questioned firmly.
The attorney said, “I’d want to talk to you.”
Dave replied, “I don’t care. My son was abandoned by those individuals. Nothing you say would be interesting to me.
Please, Mr Wallace,” the attorney pleaded. Sam’s sake, please.
Dave agreed to meet the attorney reluctantly. When he got there, he handed Dave a letter. I could never do this, Mr Wallace, but this would explain things so much better.
Dear Mr Wallce, if you are reading this, please know that I am at last at peace with my beloved wife. Dave opened the envelope and began to read. I appreciate your love and care for my sweet Sam.
. It was not to be the joyful and prosperous family life we had hoped for.
“Sam was hospitalized for some testing when he was three months old. We were struck by a truck while my wife Emily and I were driving to the hospital to pick him up.
“Emily passed away in an instant, but I lived, although with paralysis. I’ve been a dead man who still breathed for the past twelve years, cursed God, and wept.
“Sam didn’t have the kind of parent I was. I gave my baby up for adoption because I thought he deserved more. Because you adopted my son and have been the best father, Mr Wallace, I was correct.
“Sam’s biological parents desired and loved him, and I want you to be able to tell him one day. I never want my son to believe we left him.
“Tell him, please! Sam’s trust fund paperwork will be in your possession when my attorney hands them to you. Again, I want to thank Mr Wallace for loving Sam and for filling the need left by my absentee father.”
The attorney allowed Dave access to Sam’s $1.2 million trust fund, which he promised would be used to guarantee his son’s future in accordance with the wishes of his biological father.
Dave pondered whether the families who had rejected Sam would have rejected the money if they had been made aware of its existence. It had been wise of Sam’s biological father to keep his wealth a secret so that his son might be loved for who he was.
